He made his first big screen appearance in the movie "Mommie Dearest (1981)". By the mid-1980s roles were coming in fast. He played Tom Hanks's roommate in the movie "Volunteers (1985)" as well as many other roles. In "Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)" he played John Connor's foster parent. He played Capt. Whitaker in Rob Reiner's "Few Good Men, A (1992)". In "Apollo 13 (1995)", he gave a good performance as Henry Hurt, he also had a great role as Secret Service Agent Gibbs, a turncoat agent in "Air Force One (1997)". Most recently Xander has been giving an excellent performance as George Mason in the TV series "24" (2001)". This role has gotten him critically acclaimed, though in the future he would like to take up directing.
